Hi @MADMAN7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Recovering an old account on your laptop depends on the type of account (e.g., local account, Microsoft account) and the specific circumstances under which it was lost or inaccessible. Here are steps to recover your old account:
For Windows Accounts
1. Recovering a Local Account
- Password Reset Disk: If you created a password reset disk previously, you can use it to reset your password and regain access.
- Safe Mode: Boot your laptop in Safe Mode and log in with the built-in Administrator account (if available). You can create a new administrator account or reset the password for your old account.
- To boot in Safe Mode:
- Restart your computer and press F8 (or Shift + F8).
- Select Safe Mode from the menu.
- To boot in Safe Mode:
- Command Prompt: If you have another administrator account, you can reset your password using the Command Prompt.
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type net user [username] [newpassword] and press Enter.
2. Recovering a Microsoft Account
- Microsoft Account Recovery: If your account is linked to a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online.
- Go to the Microsoft account recovery page.
- Follow the instructions to verify your identity and reset your password.
- Forgotten Password: At the login screen, click on “I forgot my password” and follow the prompts to reset it through your Microsoft account.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
