HP Slim Desktop - S01-aF0056
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently did a System Test and my desktop told me that my Short Drive Self-test failed. What exactly does that mean? I read somewhere that I may have to replace my hard drive. Is this true?

Hi:

If you cannot boot into Windows, yes you will need to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to a manual which may be of some help in opening up the PC to replace the drive.

After you replace the drive, use another PC running Windows 7 64 bit or newer and the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use the cloud recovery tool...You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery drive with.
