This computer's hardrive got friend. Lost my os, I bought a new computer copied windows onto a USB and booted this computer up with it. Now I cannot get ethernet to work. Any ideas? Do I need to get a recovery disk for my original windows or can I do that online somehow to get the OS that actually belongs to the computer?

Hi:

What is the full model number or product number of the PC with the ethernet issue?

Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number...

Thanks.

What operating system are you running on it?

The specs state it came with W8.1 64 bit.

If you are not running W8.1 on it, the ethernet adapter probably needs the driver installed for it.

I have windows 10 installed on it bc I copied it from my current computer.

Go to the device manager and click to expand the Network adapters device manager category.

You should be seeing a Realtek ethernet adapter listed there.

If you don't, then the onboard ethernet adapter is no good.

You can buy a USB to RJ-45 gigabit ethernet adapter as a workaround, rather than replacing the motherboard.

As I wrote earlier...if you don't see a Realtek ethernet adapter showing up under the Network Adapters device manager category, then the adapter has died on you.

Windows 10 would have automatically installed a driver for the Realtek ethernet adapter and it should have been working.

Yes the realtek family controller is there.
