So I recently have been struggling with trying to install a new GPU on this old PC. It doesn't want to recognize there is even new hardware installed.

Tried all the fixes I could find, and it keeps coming back to the BIOS. My PC has the 7.16 version that it came with and there are no newer ones compatible with my motherboard. So that's a dead end.

The other tip I want to try is disabling the "wake on LAN" and "pxe rpm" settings in the computer setup boot menu. Someone said this fixed the issue for them. I have no trouble getting to the menu on boot and finding the settings and toggling them. The issue is that the only way to accept the changes is by pressing F10, which does not have any effect. I know the button works on my keyboard. Is there something else I need to turn on or off before I can use this function? Do I not have authorization to make changes for some reason? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

New graphics cards will not work on a Legacy BIOS.

You have a Legacy BIOS. This BIOS cannot be updated to a UEFI BIOS which is required to run new graphics cards.

Thanks for answering my question. I'm a bit confused though because this graphics card is not very new(2012 I think) and I've found others in forums with my same chipset and GPU who got it to work using the steps I mentioned. Also, in the boot menu there is an option that says "UEFI startup" or something like that. But again, it seems I am unable to actually apply any changes I make during the boot process, which is what is annoying me more than the GPU compatibility issue. Wish I knew why that was, and why the function keys don't serve their function lol.

But I ended up buying a new mobo so this won't be a problem going forward.

Thanks for your time!
