There is a grinding sound it does stop when I turn off

Is this a desktop and does it have a DVD drive? Asking because those can make a lot of noise when the disk spins up or down.

 

Barring that, the only other source of this kind of noise is a fan -- and in a desktop, there is at least one fan in the case, and maybe more.  The CPU has a fan -- but it usually does makes more of a whine than a grinding noise.  The graphics card might also have a fan, if the graphics is not built into the motherboard.

 

You will have to open the case to hunt down the source of the noise.
