HP Pavillion 1230
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My computer was on and I left for a few minutes. When I came back the display was black, it was making a funny whirring noise, and it made six beeps.  Successive attempts of turning it off/on resulted in the same error. Is this a graphics card issue? Does anyone know how to have this fixed or if this is fixable? I did take it down to get my files off the hard drive, but would like to know if I will be able to fix the PC. Thank you.

Hi, @JBFletcher

If this is your model PC...HP Pavilion HPE h8-1230

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-hpe-h8-1200-desktop-pc-series/5187019/model/5231568...

...it comes with an add on Nvidia GeForce GT 620 graphics card, which apparently has failed on you.

That is why you are getting the 6 beep error code and have no display.

Remove the graphics, card, and connect your monitor to the onboard graphics port (which may have a plug on it right now).

Then you can run the PC off the onboard graphics adapter permanently or until you can buy a replacement video card.

On your model, you cannot go beyond the Nvidia 6xx graphics card model series unless your PC has a BIOS revison 8.xx or newer installed.

Thank you! I could not find anywhere to bypass the graphics card.  I did find and order another to see if it will work with a new one.  I will update the post after it is installed to see if it works.  Thanks for your help.

Replaced the graphics card today and it dis not work.  I am still getting the same error.

Sorry that replacing the graphics card didn't resolve the problem.

If the onboard graphics didn't work and replacing the graphics card didn't work, then the motherboard is no good.
