Hi:

The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 Full Test Failure, means the hard drive needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

Below is the link to the service guide where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

After you replace the hard drive, you can reinstall W10 for free using another Windows PC  by creating bootable W10 installation media using the Media Creation Tool at the link below.  Select the 64 bit media to create.

You will not need the product key to reinstall W10. Just make sure you select W10 Home Premium from the list that shows up during the beginning of the installation process.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

I figured that was what I was going to have to do but ... I first connected it to another PC to see if I might be able to get some of the data off. Nope, it showed the operation system partition as having a size of zero but it did show the Recovery partition was good.

So I put the HD backup in the HP and used the Windows Recovery disc to try and start a restore to factory settings. The process did start but with every required restart during the process I had to manually by disk failure warning (just hit enter and the F1) so the process could continue. It went through this many times until it was showing the Windows logon and I kept letting it continue until it finished and showed Windows was running but each time it rebooted it would show the disk error.

At that point I put the HD in my other computer and cloned it to another disk using a backup software package. Since the original HD still had issues the cloning eventually said it could not copy the damaged area so I said ignore and it finished.

I put the cloned HD back in the HP Pavilion and all is good including all the drivers.

I'm retired so I had time to go through this process 😉
