I'm having a hal.dll issue which is keeping Windows XP from booting up, I tried to install windows 10 with a bootable USB and only the icon shows up but nothing else happens. It doesn't start to download.

@lopez_g13 -- that is quite a "jump", from Windows XP (for computers manufactured in 2004) to Windows 10 (for computers manufactured in 2015).

HP did publish a list of HP computers manufactured in 2013 & 2014  that they have tested to be compatible with Windows 10.  I doubt that your computer is on that list.

It's quite possible that your "antique" computer's motherboard does not have the capability to boot from any USB memory-stick.  If it has a DVD-reader device -- which was not common for computers dating from 2004 -- can you try booting from a DVD that contains the Windows 10 Installer?
