Hi @unobruno
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
It seems you're asking if you can connect your HP 230 Wireless Combo (keyboard and mouse) to your HP Pavilion All-in-One via the Wi-Fi port instead of using the USB receiver that comes with the combo. I understand that you might want to free up your USB ports or simply prefer a different connection method, but here's an important point to clarify:
Key Point: Wi-Fi vs. USB Receiver for Wireless Keyboard/Mouse
- The Wi-Fi port on your computer is meant for connecting to the internet via wireless networks (Wi-Fi), but it cannot be used to connect a wireless keyboard and mouse.
- Wireless keyboards and mice that come in combos like the HP 230 Combo typically use a 2.4GHz RF (radio frequency) signal to communicate with your computer, and this signal is transmitted through a USB receiver that plugs into a USB port on your computer.
- The Wi-Fi adapter on your computer is designed for internet/network connections, not for communication with the 2.4GHz wireless signal from your keyboard and mouse.
Why You Need to Use the USB Receiver:
- The HP 230 Wireless Combo (keyboard and mouse) operates on the 2.4GHz wireless band, which requires a specific USB receiver that plugs into one of your computer's USB ports. This receiver is responsible for establishing the connection between your keyboard, mouse, and your computer.
- The integral Wi-Fi port (Wi-Fi adapter) on your PC does not have the hardware or protocol needed to handle the signal from the keyboard and mouse.
What You Can Do:
Use the USB Receiver:
- The simplest solution is to plug the included USB receiver into any available USB port on your HP Pavilion All-in-One. Once plugged in, it should automatically pair with the keyboard and mouse, and they will work wirelessly.
If USB Ports Are Limited:
- If you're concerned about using a USB port because all your ports are occupied, you can use a USB hub to expand the number of available ports for the receiver.
Bluetooth Option (If Available):
- If your HP Pavilion All-in-One has built-in Bluetooth, you can look for a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard and mouse. These devices connect directly to your computer's Bluetooth without needing a USB receiver.
- To check if your system has Bluetooth, go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices and see if Bluetooth is listed as an option.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
-Regards
