Tried all the options provided from this community board to fix the usb ports on Probook 6470b notebook.usb ports still not functioning. Went to this link to download the public zip chipset drivers. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20775/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-INF-Update-Utility-?pr...
Unzipped the folder. No .inf file was revealed and I have file options set to show hidden files.
Also used the Setup.Chipset.exe on tha tweb link to install the chipset.
attached are screencaptures of process to install chipset drivers and what windows will NOT do.
Still need ideas and help. usb ports not working. No fooling Windows will not install drivers from unzipped https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20775/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-INF-Update-Utility-?pr...

I would reinstall W7 and the first driver that should be installed is the Intel chipset driver.
Then you can install the USB3 driver.
If that still doesn't work, try W10.
If that doesn't work, most likely there is a hardware issue of some kind.

Righto.
First of all: well done for perseverance - you were almost there.
Secondly, please use this command in Command Prompt to extract what you need from Setupchipset.exe that you got from this ZIP file:
Setupchipset.exe -EXTRACT C:\SetupChipset
It should create something of that sort:
You will have to point to these folders one after another I'm afraid with 'browse my computer...' -> 'let me pick...' until Windows finds the right file and installs it.
If it refuses to do so, then perhaps there is a problem with hardware.

Thanks for all input given to fix this prob
Presently thinking about formatting SSD on probook6470b & install of Win 7 -64bit. Been backing up present files for retreival for new install.
Any comments about doing this to see if chipset would restore giving operatable usb ports again?
Know Paul_Tikkanen's recent post indicates this may be the route to do. Thanks Paul.
Will return to posts on Friday of this week. Thank you to all who have been posting responses
Thank you for your input. however screen shot shows that I can't use this method in Cmd. using this method may lead to a rabbit trail of fixing the Extract command to extract the SetupChipset.exe
Extract command not batch file

Hello, I recently purchased a second hand laptop Probook 6470b with the same issue, the USB SS ports in the left didn't work in my Windows 7 x86_64 installation, however the ports worked fine in Ubuntu.
In Windows 7 I downloaded and installed the following driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22668/Intel-USB-3-0-Device-Driver-for-7-Series-Chipset-Bas...
After installation the ports finally worked!
