Hi @Poojs,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your laptop is suddenly shutting down and only restarts after pressing the power button for 10 seconds, here are some possible causes and troubleshooting steps to consider:

**1. Check for Overheating

Monitor Temperature:

  • Overheating can cause sudden shutdowns. Use a temperature monitoring tool to check if your laptop is overheating.
  • Ensure that vents and fans are not obstructed and that the cooling system is functioning properly.

Clean Vents and Fans:

  • Dust buildup can block airflow. Use compressed air to clean out vents and fans.

**2. Inspect Power Supply

Check Power Adapter:

  • Ensure that the power adapter and cable are in good condition and properly connected.

Test Battery:

  • If you have a removable battery, try using the laptop with the battery removed and just the power adapter plugged in.

**3. Update Drivers and BIOS

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure all drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. You can find updates on the HP website or through Windows Update.

Update BIOS:

  • Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop model on the HP support website. Follow their instructions for updating the BIOS.

**4. Check for Software Conflicts

Safe Mode:

  • Boot into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If the laptop does not shut down in Safe Mode, it might be a software conflict.

Recent Changes:

  • If you recently installed new software or updates, try uninstalling them to see if the issue resolves.

**5. Run Hardware Diagnostics

HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues. You mentioned running tests, so ensure all hardware components are tested.

Memory Test:

  • Test the RAM using built-in tools like Windows Memory Diagnostic or Memtest86.

**6. Check for System Logs

  1. Event Viewer (Windows):
    • Open Event Viewer (search for it in the Start menu) and check the System and Application logs for any errors or warnings that occurred around the time of the shutdown.

**7. Perform a System Reset

  1. Reset Windows:
    • If none of the above steps work, consider performing a system reset to restore the laptop to its factory settings. Make sure to back up your data first.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
