Hi @MCE1213,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your left USB port on your HP PC has stopped detecting your mouse, here are some steps to reset the port and troubleshoot the issue:
1. Power Reset the USB Controller
This can help reset the USB hardware:
- Shut down your PC completely.
- Unplug the power cable (and battery if it's a laptop with a removable one).
- Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Plug everything back in and restart.
2. Uninstall and Reinstall USB Drivers
- Press Win + X > Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click each USB Root Hub or Generic USB Hub > Uninstall device.
- Restart your PC—Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically.
3. Check Power Management Settings
- In Device Manager, right-click each USB Root Hub > Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
- Click OK and repeat for all USB hubs.
4. Try a Different Device in the Same Port
- If another device (like a flash drive) also fails, the port may be physically damaged.
- If it works, the issue may be with the mouse or its driver.
5. Update Chipset Drivers
- Visit your HP model’s support page and download the latest chipset and USB drivers: 🔗 Official HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
