Today I was trying to update my OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0084 to Windows 11. Not only did the attempt fail, it also prevented my computer from booting: instead the monitor alternated between 2 messages "Attempting to recover installation..." and "Undoing changes made to your computer..." while the power to the peripherals went on and off.
Moreover, when I tried to enter the Recovery Environment thru the use of the hotkey (ESC) at startup, I received a blue screen with this message :
Recovery
Your PC/Device needs to be repaired....
Error code:0x0000225.
Unfortunately, I didn't do a backup recovery on a USB before the update attemt. Please help pointing me in the right direction with where I can order a recovery/installation USB. Thank you.

You can make your own USB recovery drive with the HP cloud recovery tool.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support
You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.
HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Microsoft Store Apps
Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter the notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.
Your PC's product number is: 4NN70AA#ABA

Hi Paul,
My previous issue with booting the computer. Everytime turning on my computer, I get this loop: "Attemting to recover installation" and "Undoing changes made to your computer", followed by the computer turning itself off and on again.
I did exactly as you said: 1) I downloaded the HP Cloud Recovery Tool for my PC's product number 4NN70AA#ABA, which is the HP Cloud Recovery Tool Installer.exe, onto a USB stick. 2) I change the UEFI booting order with USB first, ON/OFF the computer 3 times; however, my UEFI boot failed to load or to see the usb stick and its application (.exe). 3) I enabled the Legacy BIOS, ESC button after ON, Startup Menu, F9 for Boot Device Options, Highlighted my USB stick on the option menu even though the HP Cloud Recovery Tool Installer.exe was not present. Again, It failed.
What should I try next? The HP Cloud Recovery Tool Installer.exe, is that the right name/application that should be on the USB stick?

Hi:
From the way you described what you did, it does not seem to me like you followed the instructions.
You do not download the cloud recovery tool exe file to a USB flash drive.
You download and install the cloud recovery tool on another PC running W7 64 bit or newer.
Then right click on the tool program and run it as administrator.
The program opens and in the search window you enter the PC's product number.
Then the tool takes about 20 minutes or so to create the USB recovery drive.
When the recovery drive has been successfully created, you plug the recovery drive into your HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0084 PC, boot from the USB recovery drive and follow the on-screen instructions.
To boot from the recovery drive, you select the F9 boot options menu after tapping the ESC key when you turn on the PC.
Select the HP USB recovery drive from the list of bootable devices and press the enter key.
You want to boot from the EFI USB boot source, not the legacy one.

Thank you again, Paul. It goes to show you that am very clueless about this sort of things. When I downloaded the HP Cloud Recovery Tool and tried to install the .exe file onto a laptop, it asked if I would allow it to make changes to my computer, I chose the NO option, fearing it would mess up the laptop too. Anyway, let me try installing the .exe file onto my laptop again tonite after work and so on.

You're very welcome.
That is a Windows protection notification that warns you if you are running a program that could cause harm or changes to your PC.
Since you know that this program is not going to harm or change your PC, it is OK to run it.
Windows doesn't know for the most part what programs are safe or not safe to run so you get that message for any executable program you run.

It worked!!! I had to do a factory reset since it was the only option, but I am so happy to have my computer back. Thank you so much for a very detailed instructions, Paul: you are in fact an expert. I think I will just stick with my Windows 10 even after Microsoft stop supporting it, for I might not get a third chance if I try to upgrade again.
For future references, what would be your advice for installing Windows 11, Paul?

You're very welcome.
Regading W11...You can click on the blue Windows 11 installation assistant button at the link below (1st option) to upgrade back to W11.
Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)
You have 10 days to try out W11 and if things don't work as expected, you can easily go back to W10 as long as you don't delete any of the upgrade files or the Windows.old folder.
It's an old video but it still works this way.
Windows 11: How to go back to Windows 10 (youtube.com)
Hopefully if you decide to upgrade back to W11 you will have more luck the next time.
