F3D90AA#ABA - HP Envy Phoenix
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
After restarting my desktop one day I was prompted with a blue message box that was titled “Hard Drive Error” so I ran a diagnostic and was given this error code “Q0EDWC-72H9L4-WPTV61-623403”. Which was a Hard Drive issue. So I decided to replace the Hard Drive with a new one. After installing the new Hard Drive and uploading the initial Windows OS, I was prompted with yet again another blue message box that was titled “Hard Drive Error”. Only this time after I ran an Extensive Hard Drive diagnostics, I was prompted with this error code “Q0EDWC-72H9MD-WPTV61-627N03”. I am having trouble figuring out what this error code is related to. Please help me.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

Copy and paste the error code at this HP Support site (Link).

The error code shows the HDD is optimized, a very cryptic message??

You got me, I have no idea what the problem could be.

Try resetting the BIOS to defaults or clearing CMOS by removing the CR2032 motherboard battery. Let the PC sit for about 15 minutes.

Install a new battery to be safe.

Regards

Thanks for replying and for your effort. I used the link you provided and was given a list of possibilities that could be causing this issue.

The list goes as follow: Floppy Drive, Hard Drive, Memory Drive, Optical Drive, SCSI, Tape Drive.

Attached to this message I’ve attached the error message pictures that I am prompted with when I first start up the computer, and after running the Extensive Hard Drive diagnostics.

Also, in regards to the BIOS being that I rebooted the computer and installed the initial OS, wouldn't everything return to it's default settings?

Hi,

You're very welcome.

Your PC has a small 16 GB caching SSD. I think you may have a problem with this disk.

The best fix for this problem is to install a new SATA SSD as the operating system drive. Disconnect the 16 GB SSD.

The new SATA SSD should be the same size (1TB) as the existing HDD you are replacing if you are using HP Recovery media to install the operating system.

Installing the operating system has no effect on any BIOS settings you may have changed.
