Laptop will BSOD before it can boot into windows. Diagnostics say all hardware is good. It will not let me factory reset the PC and any file repair options do nothing. Do I just need to buy a new ssd? HP Pavillilon Aero

Hi @Yodaaaaaaa

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I see how that could be a hassle, let’s troubleshoot it. Since your HP Pavilion Aero is stuck in a BSOD loop before booting into Windows, here are some steps to diagnose and fix the issue:

Boot into Safe Mode

  • Turn off the laptop completely.
  • Turn it back on and immediately press F8 or Shift + F8 repeatedly.
  • If Safe Mode loads, run CHKDSK and SFC:
    • Open Command Prompt (Admin) and type:
      chkdsk /f /r
      sfc /scannow
    • Restart after the scan completes.

Perform a System Restore

  • If Safe Mode works, go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore.
  • Choose a restore point before the BSOD issue started.

Run Startup Repair

  • Boot into Advanced Startup Options by pressing F11 at startup.
  • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

Check SSD Health

  • If the SSD is failing, it may cause BSODs before booting.
  • Boot into BIOS (F10 at startup) and check if the SSD is detected.
  • If possible, run HP Hardware Diagnostics from BIOS.

Reinstall Windows Using a Bootable USB

  • If nothing works, create a Windows 11 installation USB using the Media Creation Tool.
  • Boot from the USB and select Install Windows.

Consider Replacing the SSD

  • If the SSD is not detected or fails diagnostics, replacing it may be necessary.

Let me know how it goes!
