Screen saver has stopped working on my HP Laptop. It stays on all the time

HP Recommended
HP Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Following last weeks W10 update the screen saver has stopped working, so I am having to turn the machine off during the day, otherwise it would stay with a full screen display on all day.

I have followed all the Screen Time settings advice and nothing different happens.

What can i do?

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

  1. Go to Search, type cmd, and open Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. Enter the following line: sfc/scannowcmd sfc scannow
  3. Wait for the process to finish
  4. Restart your computer

If running the SFC scan didn’t resolve the issue, Try DISM.  Here’s how to run this tool:

  1. Go to Search, type cmd, and open Command Prompt(Admin)
  2. Type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:
    • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthcmd DISM
    • Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works

Keep me posted how it goes

I have run the 'scannow' and it found nothing "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".

I would like to explain the condition more fully.

The screen saver is staying on all the time, this only occurs when the laptop is connected to the mains supply, so if working on the battery after the set time the laptop turns off.

So what I am now doing is after using the machine I unplug the USB Mouse, then after the set time the screen saver works.

If this is the only solution then I will continue to work like that.

Further I have now tried to key in the Dism commands, but all I seemm to be getting is "Error87" saying these Cleanup functions are unknown.

Will just continue to just unplug the USB Mouse, at least that allows the screen saver to function.
