Hi @kr1ns,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re having trouble progressing past the page where you connect to the internet during the setup of your HP 14” laptop. This issue can be caused by several factors, including network settings, browser issues, or system configuration problems. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
**1. Check Your Internet Connection
Verify Connection:
- Ensure that your laptop is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network. Check the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray (bottom right corner) to see if it shows a connected status.
Restart Network Devices:
- Restart your router and modem. Unplug them for about 30 seconds, then plug them back in and wait for them to fully restart.
**2. Restart Your Laptop
- Reboot the Laptop:
- Sometimes a simple restart can resolve setup issues. Restart your laptop and try connecting to the internet again.
**3. Check Browser Settings
Clear Browser Cache:
- If you’re using a web-based setup or accessing a setup page through a browser, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies. Go to the browser settings and find the option to clear browsing data.
Try a Different Browser:
- If possible, use a different browser to see if the issue persists. For instance, if you’re using Microsoft Edge, try using Google Chrome or Firefox.
**4. Try Using a Wired Connection
- Connect via Ethernet:
- If your laptop has an Ethernet port or you have an Ethernet adapter, try connecting your laptop directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. This can bypass potential issues with Wi-Fi setup.
**5. Check for System Updates
- Ensure your laptop’s operating system is up to date. Sometimes updates can resolve issues with network connectivity and setup.
- Ensure that your network drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager), expanding the Network adapters section, right-clicking your network adapter, and selecting Update driver.
**6. Perform a System Reset
Reset Network Settings:
- If you’re stuck during the setup process, you can try resetting your network settings. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status, then select Network reset. Note that this will remove and reinstall all network adapters and set other networking components back to their original settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
