Upgrade to SSD on HP Compaq from a guy who had it upgraded

Sorry your experiment was not a raving success.

I think the only motherboard that would be a direct swap and I am not 100% sure of that, would be from a 6200 Pro or 8200 Elite.

Those would support 2nd gen Intel core processors, it does have two SATA III ports, but is only PCIe x v2.0. 

It does not have USB 3 ports, which I have now become spoiled with on this used Dell OptiPlex 7020 PC I got for free since it had no hard drive or memory.

I think you will either have to build your own PC from scratch, or get a newer off lease PC on eBay such as the Elitedesk 800 G2.  Those are pretty affordable nowadays.

Yes exactly!!!! Not a raving success is putting it lightly! But I still have a lot of work to do so it's not over yet. As far as the core 2 quad Q6600 (SLACR) that's not listed as a supported CPU under the computers specs, it worked!!!!! I wasn't expecting it until next week mid-week, but got that bad boy today and threw it in right away with some Arctic mx-4 thermal paste and called it a day. I had a feeling it would work based on what I read but was pretty 
*glad when it booted up!!! Freaking sweet deal!!! So now I can focus on the PCIe M.2 adapter card with the ole M.2 (it's a Toshiba XG5 m key) and find a way to get it to work. It might only work in the x1 slot and I should've just gotten another card for that one too but the whole purpose behind using a pcie is because I wanted a minimum of 2 lanes, for the 500 mb/s dealio considering it's a 2.0. I mean, 1 lane would still be up to that speed and faster than SATA 2, but I was pretty dead set on using 2-4 lanes. That would be some * fast data transfer rates!! And I'm used to sata 2 HDD specss lol still have to find out what's up with this 860 Evo.. It's gotta be an issue with the mobo or the chipset... I'll find out! But that'll be after I get this m.2 to work! Hopefully anyways...  Anyways I'll more than likely update with progress if anyone's interested! Take care man!
