Windows 7 v's Windows 10

Hi,

Does anyone know if the new HP z440 will see better performance in Autodesk Inventor when running on Windows 7 or 10? Is there any diference in performance at all? We have baught 4x off, they are monsters and want to make sure we are getting as much out of them as we can...any advice would be welcomed.

I think that the larger issue is that Microsoft will terminate support for Windows 7 in January 2020 -- just over 2 years away.

So, if you install Windows 7 today, and load your applications and your personal files, you'll have to do a "migration" to Windows 10 before January 2020 -- that is extra "work" for you.  It is work that can be avoided.

Also, Windows 10 is more "virus-resistant" than Windows 7.

Another issue is that "new" computers are "designed for Windows 10" -- you may not be able to find device-drivers for the hardware for Windows 7.

As for "performance", I say "measure, measure, measure".

Open Windows Task Manager, and click to the "Performance" tab, to see how "busy" the computer is, when running AutoDesk.  At the bottom of that tab, click "Resource Monitor", for finer detail on disk I/O, CPU usage, RAM usage, and network traffic.
