Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a pavilion 500-c60 ser # [Personal Information Removed]. I download the bios update and when I get to the select a location to save files and click next it quickly flashes the next box and goes no further.  I even tried a new download and same thing.  Any ideas what to do.?

And another issue is cpu fan speed control. Unless the new bios has any controls there are no settings for fan speed control in the bios. Do I have to use something like speedfan if that will work? Thanks for any help.

It appears the BIOS update was removed as there are none listed here

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-500-c00-desktop-pc-series/6528309/model...

A bios is removed (this is my opinion) when too many users complain their system died after upgrading.

Is the system overheating?

Is the fan too loud?

what is the problem?

I have speedfan on several system and have never been successful having it control fan speed on OEM motherboards such as Dell and HP.

When I go to the HP driver page of https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-500-c00-desktop-pc-series/6528309/model... and put in that ser # or the sku # I get the bios of sp76898.exe.

I have a larger fan rather than that micro thing it came with! This 80mm still runs about 2500 rpm minimum and I would like to try it at some lower speeds. (I have another fan that may run slower and will be trying that one also later on. Sometime different fans operate differently speedwise). It appears the bios will run up the speed some if temps rise, but there is no fan speed system in the bios, only a reading for the fan speed. And I know that a bios update probably will not add in fan controls but I wanted to see.

I know what you are saying with speedfan not always working. I may try it to see. Any other ideas for controlling the cpu fan?

There are a couple of things you can do depending on your budget and DIY skills

Best to to obtain a closed circuit liquid cooler.  The radiator 120mm replaces the case fan.  Very efficient so fan does not have to run fast.  You will have to research the cooling capacity and see if the 120 is sufficient.

A  really cheap DIY:  use a molex connector.  It has 12 and 5 volts but cannot vary the fan speed with temp.  The 12 and ground wires from the can be rewired to connect to the 12 and 5 volt lines of the molex.  That 7 volts. to run the 12 volt fan at  slower speed.

Can also get DIY adjustable fan control

The following is interesting. I bought three but never used them as I decided the liquid system is quiet and I wanted quiet.

They come with a 6cm long thermostat wire and a 4 cm power cable ready to be soldered or "twisted" to the 12 volt of the molex cable.  The 6cm length of the thermostat is really short and probably needs to be extended.
