can my HPE-580t be upgraded to Windows 10

HP Recommended
HP Pavilion Elite
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am running Windows 7 SP 1. I tried to update to Windows 10. I get an error 0xC1900101-0x20017 with the message "The installation failed in SAFE_OS phase with an error during boot operation". I have updated the BIOS, and all the drivers. I have scanned for and removed all malware, cookies. I have uninstalled the virus protection SW. I have dried to download from Microsoft I have tried loading from a CD and I get the same error.

My questions is "Is the HPE-580t PC from Hewlett Packard even able to be upgraded to windows 10?

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

The error code and possible remediation is listed at this site (Link).

You have a driver problem. It could also be caused by incompatible hardware.

Worst case scenario is to back up data. Then do a clean W10 install.

This is not good but you may have no choice, unless you can isolate the driver which is causing the problem, if you want to update to W10.

Regards

I can't see why not. I've loaded Win10 on older ones than that. There won't be any drivers per se for Win10, but the windows install and/or Windows update will fix up the drivers.

Are you upgrading and choosing 'keep nothing' or 'keep files etc'?

I know it's painful starting over, but keeping everything in old installations is usually plagued with issues.
