Hi @rubi6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 15.6 Inch Laptop PC is freezing, there could be several potential causes. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix temporary glitches causing the freezing issue. Click on the Start menu, select the Power option, and choose Restart.
  • Close unnecessary programs: If you have multiple programs running simultaneously, it can strain your laptop's resources and lead to freezing. Close any unnecessary programs and see if the freezing stops.
  • Check for updates: Outdated operating system or software can cause compatibility issues and freezing problems. Ensure that your laptop has the latest Windows updates and that your installed programs are up to date.
  • Scan for malware: Malicious software can also cause your laptop to freeze. Run a full scan with a reputable antivirus program to check for any malware or viruses.
  • Check system resources: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager and go to the "Performance" tab. Monitor the CPU, memory, and disk usage when your laptop is freezing. If any of these resources are constantly maxed out, it could indicate a problem. Consider upgrading your hardware if necessary.
  • Disable unnecessary startup programs: Some programs set to launch at startup can contribute to freezing issues. Open the Task Manager, go to the "Startup" tab, and disable any programs that you don't need to start automatically.
  • Update device drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause freezing problems. Visit the HP support website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest drivers for your hardware. Install them and see if it resolves the freezing issue.
  • Check for overheating: Overheating can cause performance problems and freezing. Make sure your laptop's cooling vents are clear and not blocked by dust or debris. Consider using a laptop cooling pad to help with heat dissipation.
  • Perform a system restore: If the freezing issue started recently, you can try restoring your laptop to a previous point when it was functioning correctly. Search for "System Restore" in the Start menu and follow the instructions to restore your laptop to an earlier state.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
