Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I'm sorry to hear about the freezing issue with your OMEN by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop. Let's work through some steps to identify and resolve the problem:
1. Check for Overheating
- Ensure the laptop's vents are not blocked and clean them using compressed air to remove dust.
- Use the HP Command Center to monitor system temperatures and adjust the thermal profile to reduce heat.
2. Update Drivers and BIOS
- Visit the HP Support page for your laptop model and download the latest drivers and BIOS updates.
- Install the updates and restart your laptop.
3. Run Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly to access the Startup Menu.
- Select F2 (System Diagnostics) and run tests for the memory, storage, and other hardware components.
4. Disable Fast Startup
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
- Save changes and restart your laptop.
5. Check for Software Conflicts
- Boot your laptop into Safe Mode:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- Under the Boot tab, select Safe Boot and restart.
- If the freezing stops in Safe Mode, a third-party application might be causing the issue.
6. Perform a System Restore
- If the issue started recently, use System Restore to revert your laptop to a previous state when it was functioning correctly.
7. Test with External Devices
- Disconnect all peripherals (e.g., mouse, keyboard, external drives) and check if the freezing persists. Faulty peripherals can sometimes cause system instability.
