Hi @Astha642,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
The issue where your HP Pavilion laptop with a Ryzen 5 processor doesn't fully power down after shutting down, leading to the power button remaining lit and the laptop heating up, could be related to a few different factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can sometimes cause issues with the shutdown process, especially on newer systems. Disabling it might help.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
- Click Save changes.
2. Check for Windows and Driver Updates
Ensure your system is up-to-date, as updates can fix compatibility and performance issues.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update.
- Check for updates and install any that are available.
3. Update BIOS/UEFI
An outdated BIOS/UEFI firmware can sometimes cause issues with power management. Check the HP support website for any BIOS/UEFI updates specific to your laptop model.
- Visit the HP Support website.
- Enter your laptop model and look for BIOS/UEFI updates.
- Follow the instructions provided by HP to update the BIOS/UEFI.
4. Check Power Settings
Ensure that the power settings are correctly configured:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional power settings.
- Select Change plan settings next to your active power plan.
- Choose Change advanced power settings.
- In the Power Options window, expand Power buttons and lid > Power button action and ensure it is set to Shut down.
- Expand Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep, and set it to Off.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Astha642,
Please find the next steps below.
5. Run Power Troubleshooter
Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that might help diagnose and fix power-related issues.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Power and run the troubleshooter.
6. Check for Background Processes
Some background processes might be preventing the system from shutting down completely.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Check the Processes tab for any apps that might be using a lot of CPU or memory.
- End the task of any suspicious or unnecessary processes before shutting down the laptop.
7. Perform a Full Shutdown
To perform a full shutdown, which bypasses any potential issues caused by Fast Startup or other settings:
- Press Windows + X and select Shut down or sign out > Shut down.
- Hold down the Shift key while clicking on Shut down.
8. Check for Hardware Issues
If none of the above solutions work, the issue could be hardware-related, possibly with the power button or the motherboard. In such a case, it's advisable to contact HP Support for further assistance or take your laptop to an authorized service center.
If the problem persists after trying these steps, it could be a more complex issue that might require diagnosis and repair.
Contact phone support or take it to the nearest service center.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
