how do i recover my PC if I replaced my dead HDD with a new one?

Without the complete model number, the help is general.  Assuming there are no backups and Windows 10 needs to be reinstalled, then go here with a working PC:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Scroll down to the "Using the tool to create installation media" and follow the directions.  Then use this new media to install Windows 10 on the new drive.  Be sure to pick the correct version of Windows 10.  Most likely Home.

When it asks for a product key, choose "skip".  Once the install is complete and connects to the internet you can go to the HP support site to see the model number (by clicking on the "Let HP detect your product") and get any of the additional drivers needed, if any.
