HP 20 All-in-One Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This PC is almost new, but I cannot recover after following every method I can find online. I am wondering if buying the HP Recovery disc will do it, or will I be wasting $40? What happened: I was trying to Restore to an earlier date (to try to go back to Yahoo Email Classic when they dropped it) and the message said it was unable to, after processing for a long time. I ended up in the Save Changes and Exit (BIOS?) menu, looked thru all the tabs, and the only thing I changed was in the (SATAS Bios?) tab, and I changed everything from DIsable to Enable. (Wouldn't you think that would be better?) I realize now I probably therefore locked myself out. All I get now is a blank white screen.

Any other suggestions would also be appreciated. Thanks!

@pamelamuraca,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the notebook

Before power resetting your computer, do the following:

  1. Disconnect or remove all peripheral devices. Start up the laptop and test the computer by itself, and then reconnect one peripheral device at a time.

  2. Turn over the computer and look for a battery compartment door.

I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. That way it will look at the Hardware installed on the Notebook.

Once done, restart the computer and check.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to perform a system recovery using the partition available on your PC.

You may go through the steps suggested in this support document for - Performing an HP System Recovery

If for some reason, the recovery fails, then is could either be due to partition is missing or the partition is corrupted then the only option would be to perform a recovery using the recovery media. To know more about obtaining a set of recovery media, please click here

I would recommend you contact our HP support team for ordering a set of recovery media for your PC.

Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

First, thank you for your suggestions.

I went through all of them, with no luck. I had already tried some of them, and also removed & replaced the internal battery,  but I'm not certain I reattached the wide ribbon cable correctly. There are 2 possible attachment means: the 2 cable end surfaces both under the ridge, then taped, or the two surfaces around the ridge (seems most logical) and taped. I tried both, but any feedback on that issue would also be appreciated. HP was kind enough to send me a USB Recovery drive for it, and I followed the instructions, but again no luck, just the white screen. At this point, I'm afraid I might have a major hardware problem that I'm not able to fix. Local (So. Carolina) computer repair shops won't touch it. So much for retiring to the South!

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks, I'll try that, but I'm pretty sure the warranty's up and I don't know how much more I can invest in it. Thanks again for all your help!

I tried, but I keep ending up in a navigational loop that makes it impossible to refer this to a human. No way to refer this dialog to any person for action.

Nothing has worked. Tried everything. Pretty sure it's a hardware failure. No HP service within hundreds of miles.

I expect to get more than a year and a half service out of a PC costing $350.

Thanks for trying.
