HP 8200 Elite SFF
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi guys,

Before i ask my questions, I just want to say...i have read about 20 posts from here relating my questions and also many posts in the past a few years back when building this pc and 99% of them a has replied to them.

In every reply he is a gentleman and always so helpful with always fullfilled answers.\

Thankyou Paul for helping us all with your knowledge.. you truly are a star 🙂

Ok so for my pc.

I currently have a 8200 Elite SFF. I purchased it secondhand to build myself a HTPC, and she works a treat.

I beefed it up a little with 32gm of ram, and a Nvidia Gigabyte  GTX1050ti factory overclocked. Mine has is the i7 cpu and also has 2 sata 3.5 hdd and a dvdrom. Still running stock 240w PSU.

I added 2 small 40mm pwm fans via a splitter to 1 x mobo pwm fan header at the back to help suck air out as a precaution (i feel the more cooling the better)

Ive seen alot of people asking if it can run this amount of ram and graphics card due to PSU.

Im hoping this information can help some1 else in the future.....I have ran mine for about 2 years now, and it works brilliantly. Has not missed a beat.

I even took it to a friends lan party and was able to play all their latest games Battlefield and pub and such (sorry i dont know the games properly, i dont play them often). It worked well and no problems.

Am currently on bios J01 - 2.29 with win 7 64bit

I have read issues with 2.29 and onwards regarding win 10 and bios with non uefi installs, about how there is a 2 min lockup during os boot.

The time has come for me to update all my pc's to win 10 64bit, and as drives are getting larger, i am updating all my drives to GPT, which means UEFI installs

I am already past 2.28 so im thinking of updating from 2.29 bios to 2.33 rev A (via bios).

With win 10 64bit and GPT and UEFI, is their any known issues?

Any what drivers do we use on the HP website as there is no listing for win 10.

Im guessing we use win 8 64bit drivers?

Thankyou all

Hi:

Thank you for the kind words.

As far as I am aware, updating the BIOS to v2.33 will be fine as long as you install W10 in EFI mode.

The only driver you will need to install for your PC on W10 is the W8 AMT driver for the PCI Serial Port device that W10 may not install.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp69501-70000/sp69506.exe

You should still be able to get the free upgrade to W10 by reading the info at the link below.

Then click on the blue Update Now button at the link below to upgrade to W10.

Thankyou Paul, much appreciated

Have updated to new bios just now, ready for a win 10 install

Also just to clarify.

When you mean the pci serial port, do you mean the onboard serial port?

Or did some of the elites 8200 have a serial port card in the pci slot?

Sorry a little confused on that one

HP Recommended

You're very welcome.

The PCI serial port I am referring to is part of the Intel AMT system.

Go to the device manager.  Click to expand the Ports (COM & LPT) device manager category.

You should see an Intel Active Management Technology - SOL device listed there.

That is the only device that W10 will probably not install and there is no W10 driver for that version, so you use the W8 driver.

Thankyou Paul,

Can i bother you once more,

Not sure if this is an issue, i actually havnt tried installing windows yet

But under boot devices

under EFI, it doesnt show HDD

I have a 2tb drive in Sata0

A 3tb drive in Sata1

And DVD rom in Sata2

Bios has detected both drives in the hard drive section

It does however under Legacy.

Shouldnt HDD be under EFI aswell?

Im asking because i want to install Windows in UEFI mode and worried it wont

Thankyou

Hi:

I don't believe that it is a problem.

Mine shows the same thing.  Only the CD/DVD, USB Floppy/CD, USB hard drive.

So boot from whichever device you have W10 on (DVD or USB), and it will install in EFI Mode.

My PC's legacy boot sources show the same thing as yours.

Thanks Paul,

well i cant remember what option i did try, i ended up loading windows 10 setup, it told me cannot install on the 3tb. This is when i realised that it must of booted the install in legacy mode. I exit the setup, turned off pc.

And... it looks like i jinxed yesterdays post

It now will not show any displau and fans go to full speed after 1 min

Sounds like mboard has failed

Any suggestions?

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try clearing the CMOS.

See the service manual below, Appendix E, pages 304 & 305 for how to do that.

One of mine had a motherboard go out on me.  I got a replacement on eBay for cheap.
