Hi. Call me 'computer illiterate'.
I am having issues with my P6030a. It won't allow me to download files. I am running Vista(32). The download proccess starts, and appears to go through the motions, but then disappears with no indication of what's happened. It happens with files from email and websites. I'm able to watch shows off the internet, but I can't download the attachments in my email, or a simple file from a website. I'm sorry if this seems like a trivial problem(I hope it does and I can get help(other than mental)), but it's driving me crazy. I've tried to disable my anti-virus(norton), but that does not help and I've experimented with turning off various things in the security section, but, to no avail.
Any advice would be appreciated.
P.S. Yes, I mean ANY advice. I'm an idiot when it comes to computers.

Launch IE and then go to Tools ---> Internet Options -->Advanced --- > now do a reset back to factory settings. Close IE and then launch it and give it a go. When you download a file using IE be sure to watch where IE is downloading the file into which folder.

It does not matter where I set the files to go to, they never get there. I just tried to download mozilla firefox thinking that IE is the problem and the download starts out as expected, asking 'run' or 'save'. It then does not begin the installer, it asks 'run' or 'don't run', and then dissappears when I click run.
I'm sure this is something I've done to the computer inadvertantly, as I used to be able to download. I found a microsoft download that "fixes all known incompatiblity issues with vista", but it would not download. GRR!
If I do a system restore to the point where I know for a fact I could complete downloads(6months ago), might this possibly fix the problem? Or Is it more likely that the problem will remain and I'll cause myself more dramas?
Cheers in advance.

IE is the issue.
I am now using google crome and everything works fine.
I would still like to rectify this issue, but it's not so important now.
Thank you very much to everyone who took the time to answer. I appreciate it immensely.
