Loading data from backup

HP Recommended
Pavilion 590
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Looking for guidance on how to best load data files from a backup drive to my new dual drive desktop.  It appears that best practice is to put data/video/music files on the HDD, but I've read articles that suggest I need to do some configuration i.e. set up folder structure, etc.    Looking for someone to provide guidance on any best practices.

I don't know about "best" practices -- but in the case where you have both an SSD and an HDD, the general approach is to have the OS and boot files on the SSD primarily for access speed.

That not only allows you to boot faster than with an HDD, it also allows you to disable Fast Startup -- the new MS hibernation approach that is know to cause problems with PCs.

With an SSD, there really is no reason for Sleep, since your PC will start up very quickly.

Also, the reason for putting video files on the HDD is primarily due to their size, as you're normally dealing with a 1TB drive or larger in the HDD, giving you lots of room for multi-GB video files. Admittedly, the playback performance will be lower than if you put the same files on an SSD, especially if you have one of the new high-end M.2 SSDs, but unless your playing 4K videos, I doubt you will notice any frame rate drops.
