Transferring Favourites & emails to new computer with different Outlook address

I am trying - and struggling - to transfer Favourites and emails to my new HP 64 bit desktop computer from my 32 bit Samsung laptop.  

When I set up the HP computer, I couldn't remember my Outlook address and didn't think to check on my laptop so I have a new one on there.  But of course now it means they won't sync. I tried exporting the Favourites from the laptop and it saved it as a html file but now I don't know what to do with it, how to get that over to the HP computer!  I even tried emailing it over but it said it was too big.

And I don't know how to transfer all my email over either, which I would like to do.

Any help would be very much appreciated, but in layman's terms plse  🙂

You specifically mention favourites -- but html files are used with bookmarks, and the favourites are used by browsers such as Internet Explorer -- which has been replaced by Edge in Win10.

In terms of emails, if you're using Outlook then you have to export them into a file in that app, copy that file to a USB stick, insert that into the new PC, and import those into Outlook.  There are different versions of outlook, so you will have to do an online search with the version you have to get the details.

Thank you for your reply WAWood, I'm still completely flummoxed though and sadly none the wiser.  I had seen the link you posted before and used the second option, when it saved it as a html file.  Then I was stuck, as how was I going to get that html file on to my other computer?  Yes my other computer had Edge as a browser.  It had started with IE, then went to Windows 7, then Edge.

It's annoying that I'd forgotten my Outlook address otherwise I presume I could have synced the two computers.  I had to think of another Outlook address for the new one so of course they now won't sync.

You have to migrate your files from one PC to anther using USB sticks.

You copy the files to the USB stick on the first computer, remove it, insert it into the second computer, and then using the specific browser, import the files from that USB stick.

Brilliant, thank you WAWood, it's only taken me 9 days to do!  I wasn't sure how to copy in the first place but got there in the end thanks to your help.  Now I've got to transfer my mail over (although that's not vital) but I'm also unable to uninstall HP printer from my previous computer, it can't find the network (or something like that).  I tried repairing it and it's got rid of the HP basic software now in the Uninstall programs.  Sheesh, this is hard work! 🙂

We're a bunch of specialists here, each with our own areas of expertise -- which is why, if you have additional issues, the best thing to do is (1) close this thread out (with a thanks), (2) open a new thread for each new issue.

That way, the appropriate experts will see the new threads and answer them.

I will tell you for now, that the "network message" for the old printer means you need to find the CD that came with it in order to uninstall the old drivers -- which is really a LOT of work you don't need to do, as there is no real benefit from removing the old drivers from the old PC.

Hi and thank you again for your reply.  Re the printer, I want to set it up on the new computer but it's stuck on the old one.  I did put the CD in, it just asked if I wanted to repair the printer, so I thought 'yes.'  But that got rid of the software in Uninstall Programs.  Not that it made any difference, as when I clicked on uninstall it gave the network message.  I've had a lot of problems with the printer, saying it's offline when it's not etc but for now, I'd like it on my new computer.
