HP Recommended
Pavilion 550- 153na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Front panel USB port (1 of 2), works fine with 1TB external drive, or optical mouse, or Kindle, but not with any USB thumb drive. Inserting thumb drive yields no response.  ALL other USB ports are OK. No physical damage, internal wiring in good order (obviously OK as power and data working but not for thumb drives)

Have done :- disable and restart, disconnect and restart, unchecked 'allow computer etc' in power management, uninstalled hub and restart.

After further investigation:

Port_#0020.Hub_#0001

Port wont read any USB 2 thumb drive (tried many, new and old)
will read USB3 thumb drive, will read optical mouse, will read 1TB, self powered ext drive, will read Kindle

Adjacent port Port_#0019.Hub_#0001 reads everything.

Both these ports are on a multi plug on the motherboard, which I inspected - looks good, blasted with air and replaced.  No change.  Can not be driver error -same driver for all ports.

Rear ports all working OK.
