Since February, the security updates for windows have failed to install. After contacting MS about it, they told me I have to talk with the manufacturer of the pc, which is HP. The error messages I get are:
1) Windows Update Error 0X800B0100 (2018-04-12-T-09_04_029A)
2) Cryptographic service components are not registered.

I use / suggest the Windows Update Catalogue and install manually.
And perhaps Belarc Advisor for any missing numbers.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately they still won't install. I have no idea what could have changed in February to stop these security updates from installing (Other updates still install), unless it has to do with item 2 I listed about some cryptographic service not being registered. Any other suggestions?

Google-search for "Windows Update Troubleshooter".
Download this, only from Microsoft's web-site, and run it, to find/resolve many problems within Windows Update.

Microsoft claims to offer free technical support for all issues relating to problems with Microsoft Windows Update.
Obviously, the person you talked to is unaware of that policy statement.
Did running the Windows Update Troubleshooter *FIX* any problems?
Rename software distribution backup folders
- From Start, search for cmd
- Select Command Prompt from the results
- At the Command Prompt, type the following and then push Enter:
Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak
- When that command completes, type the following and then push Enter:
Ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
- Close the Command Prompt window, and reboot your computer.
Check for Windows Updates again. Did this resolve the issue?

According to Windows Troubleshooter, it fixed (3) "Problems Installing Recent Updates". In regards to what you wrote about MS offering support to fix related issues, I think if that were true, they wouldn't have all those forums where everyone else BUT MS offers solutions.
