dvd player not operating. Never nknew my cp had the drive. Put in a dvd and it dosen't play.

Envey Desktop PC.  I just discovered that this PC has  a DVD drive. I put in a DVD and it dosen't play. In the file explorer, if I go to quick access and click on it. I see alot of lines. But I can,t get it to play. What can I do ?

Hi:

It is possible that your PC did not come with the required DVD playing software that is not included in W10 or W11.

I recommend you install the free VLC media player from the Microsoft Store and see if that allows you to play a DVD.

When you search the store, you just want the plain VLC media player, not the VLC UWP.

Or you can download it directly from the VLC website.

The vlc didn't work.      If I go to the store what do I look for

If the VLC media player from the VLC site didn't work the one from the Microsoft Store isn't going to work either because it is the same program.

You may have a defective DVD player because VLC should have worked fine.

You didn't inadvertently insert a Blu-Ray disk, did you?

Your PC's DVD drive cannot play Blu-Ray disks.
