The W8.1 product key is in the BIOS.

You can reinstall W8.1 for free by downloading the W8.1 64 bit ISO file from the link below.

Select the plain W8.1 file.

I have zipped up and attached the Microsoft utility below, that you will need to transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so that it is bootable.

After W8.1 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

Your PC is supported by HP for W10.

After you install W8.1, you may want to see if you can still get the free upgrade to W10 by clicking on the blue Update Now button at the link below.

I was able to get the free upgrade from W8.1 to W10 this past July.

If you still have a working (but un-activated) version of Windows, download and run this tool:

It'll read the DPK from BIOS and show you. Then copy and paste this key into the 'Use a different key' section of 'Activate Windows Now'.

Sometimes I have to use this when changing mainboards on HP PC's and the user does not want to do a re-install of Windows.

The version of Win8 must match the key (eg Windows 8.0 Home, Windows 8.1 Pro)
