I gently cleaned the touchscreen a few weeks ago with a small microfiber cloth, now the screen intermittently will be black upon starting. I have on screen Sticky Notes that aren't affected by the black screen. I have to reboot the computer to get the black screen to go away. I've done the diagnostic tests and everything comes back normal.

Hi @123456fghj,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your screen. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the intermittent black screen problem:
Check Connections: Since the screen goes black intermittently, first ensure that all physical connections to the monitor are secure, including the power cable and video cable (HDMI, VGA, DVI, etc.). Sometimes a loose connection can cause the display to fail intermittently.
External Monitor Check: If you have an external monitor available, try connecting it to your computer. If the external monitor works without issues, the problem might be with the original screen's hardware or connection.
Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues. Visit the manufacturer’s website of your graphics card or integrated graphics processor to download and install the latest drivers.
Windows Display Settings: Sometimes, display settings in Windows can get mixed up, especially if you've connected to external screens or projectors before. Go to the display settings (Right-click on Desktop -> Display settings) and ensure that the correct display is selected and configured.
Check for Overheating: If your device overheats, it might cause the screen to go black to save components from damage. Make sure your computer’s cooling system is working correctly, and vents are not blocked.
Safe Mode and Clean Boot: Try booting your computer in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it doesn't, then a software conflict might be causing the issue. You can also perform a clean boot to help identify if background programs are causing issues.
- Safe Mode: Restart your computer and press the F8 key (or Shift + F8) before the Windows logo appears. Choose “Safe Mode” from the menu that appears.
- Clean Boot: Type msconfig in the Run dialog (press Win + R), go to the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services", then click "Disable all". Go to the Startup tab and disable all startup items. Restart the computer.
Hardware Diagnostics: Since you mentioned that you've already run diagnostic tests with normal results, consider running HP PC hardware diagnostic.
System Restore: If the issue started recently, you can try restoring your computer to a previous point before the issue began using System Restore. This can sometimes reverse any configuration changes that might be causing the problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
