If you set the resolution in Windows, a way to address this is the following:
1) Hook up another monitor
2) Set the resolution of that monitor to what you want for your screen
3) Swap the monitors.
IF you set the resolution using the On Screen Menu in the monitor, you will have to change it there, too. So, you would have to reconnect it, then press the button to open the On Screen Menu, and use the monitors buttons to changer the resolution.
