Hp Pavilion 15-cs3073cl

I just got my new laptop yesterday and set it all up.  Today I went to boot it up and it popped up with an icon telling me to update my bios.  I know nothing about computers and accepted the update as it seemed pretty legit.  We left the computer unaccompanied for 30 minutes or so and when I returned , the keyboard was on and the fan was in full force.  I'm unable to shutdown the computer with the power button and have turned to many different key bindings with no avail.  Is it safe for the computer to just run like this until it dies so I can restart it. I should also mention I can't see the screen and have no control of whats going on.  Could someone please help me?
