The specs of your computer is

           https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04755753

VGA to HDMI is from analog to digital you need a proper converter. Your adapter may not meet convert procedure.

There are following ports at the back of your computer.

  • DC input power
  • VGA
  • DVI-D
  • USB 3.0: 2
  • USB 2.0: 2
  • LAN
  • Audio: Line in
  • Audio: Line out
  • Audio: Microphone

You can use a simple DVI-D to HDMI cable, no need conversion because they are BOTH digital. You won't get sound if you wish to have sound on TV, you need a cable to connect Line out on your computer to line in on your TV.

Regards.
