HP ENVY 34 34-inch Display
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I have had this for a few years now, it's never worked right. Both problems have persisted over several different computers including Intel and M1 processors, last four or five versions of the OS. 

 

When connected via USB-C, video displays correctly and audio works but volume control is either silent or full volume; reducing the volume below maximum causes it to mute. 

 

When connected via HDMI, there is sound but full volume and no volume control available in the OS (I get a 🚫 symbol). 

 

This seems like a firmware issue but no mention of firmware on the website. Any way to fix this so I can have normal volume control?
