Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have problem extending My hp pavilion laptop i just bought to a monitor for second screen Display.  When i Connecticut the HDMI cable, and select extend Display in the Display setting, my second screen appear dark with nothing on screen. I though it was a problem with the HDMI cable so i bought a new one but still i have althesame problem. Can you help with a way out of this. I want to use the second monitor to operate Multiple apps at once. Thank you
