Hi @SimSenorita,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the touchscreen on your HP Pavilion laptop has stopped working, there could be several reasons behind the issue. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.
Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve touchscreen issues. Restart your HP Pavilion and check if the touchscreen works after rebooting.
Clean the Screen: Ensure that the touchscreen is not obstructed by dirt, dust, or fingerprints. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the screen gently.
Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the screen for any physical damage, such as cracks or dents, which might be affecting its functionality. If you find any damage, you may need to replace the touchscreen.
Update or Rollback Drivers: Outdated or corrupt touchscreen drivers can cause issues. To update drivers, follow these steps:
- Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
- Expand the "Human Interface Devices" or "Touchscreen" category.
- Right-click on your touchscreen device and select "Update driver."
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and follow the on-screen instructions.
If updating the driver doesn't work, you can also try rolling back the driver to a previous version:
- In the Device Manager, right-click on your touchscreen device.
- Select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and click "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.
Calibrate the Touchscreen: Windows allows you to calibrate your touchscreen for improved accuracy. To calibrate your touchscreen:
- Type "Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input" in the Windows search bar and select it from the results.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate your touchscreen.
Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date by installing any pending Windows updates.
Perform a System Restore: If the touchscreen issue occurred after a recent software update or installation, you can try performing a system restore to a point before the problem started.
- Type "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar and select it from the results.
- Click the "System Restore" button and follow the on-screen instructions.
Run Hardware Diagnostics: HP laptops often come with built-in hardware diagnostics tools. You can access them during startup by pressing the appropriate key (often F2 or F12) and then selecting the diagnostics option.
Check BIOS Settings: Occasionally, touchscreen functionality can be disabled in the BIOS settings. Enter the BIOS and ensure that the touchscreen is enabled.
Remember to back up your important data before attempting any troubleshooting or system restore procedures, as they may affect your files and settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
