Hi @emtuw,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop is having a display issue. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Brightness and Power Settings:

  • Ensure that the brightness is not set to the lowest level. Sometimes the screen can appear black if the brightness is too low.

External Display Test:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI cable (or another compatible connection). If the external display works, the issue may be with the laptop’s screen or its connection.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter (and battery) and try turning the laptop on.

Check for Loose Connections:

  • If you're comfortable opening your laptop, check if the display cable is securely connected to the motherboard. Sometimes the connection can come loose.

Try Safe Mode:

  • If possible, try to boot into Safe Mode. To do this, turn on your laptop and repeatedly press the F8 key (or Shift + F8) as it starts up. If you see the Safe Mode menu, select it and see if the display works in this mode.

Check for Signs of Life:

  • Listen for any beeps or fan noises that could indicate the laptop is starting up but just not displaying anything.

Reset the RAM:

  • Sometimes reseating the RAM can help. Turn off the laptop, remove the battery and power adapter, open the laptop, and remove and reinsert the RAM sticks.

BIOS/UEFI Reset:

  • If you have access to the BIOS/UEFI settings, try resetting them to default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
