Hp pavilion all in one desk top

Pavilion 23
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

The computer turns on but the screen is black/dark grey and looks like it is rolling pages.

What could be wrong and how do I  fix it? Very least can I recover any files on the computer?

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

I understand that the computer turns on with a blank screen.

Have you tried to do any hardware changes on the PC?

Are you facing this issue after an update?

In the meantime, Perform a Hard Reset on the PC by following the below steps.

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Connect an external monitor and check if it works.

Check if you can boot to BIOS using the below steps.

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.

If this does not help you follow the HP document.

Let me know how it goes!

Keep me posted.

Have a great day.
