too faded to see

So my laptop dies as soon as I unplug the charger (only saying this in case it helps.) So today I moved my laptop and went to restart it. When I turned it on, all I had was the start screen taking up my entire screen. I cannot for the life of me get back to my desktop. Every app I open takes up the entire screen. I didn't hit anything new or different.

Very rarely I'll restart it trying to fix the problem and it loads up like normal before going back to the start screen. Please help I don't know what to do.

If I left click on the Windows icon in the left corn er and hit the 'desktop' option, I don't even see any of my apps.

@CallMeDen

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • What is the operating system?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

Keep me posted for further assistance.
