I have an hp envy 360. Most of the time I leave it idle on charge the screen goes off and does not respond. All the indicator lights that tell you the PC is running goes off except the power button. I hear the system fan running but am forced to shut it down when this happens. It only happens when its on charge and left idle

Hi @John9910,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your HP Envy 360 laptop where the screen goes off and becomes unresponsive when you leave it idle while it's charging. This could be caused by various factors, and troubleshooting the issue might require a combination of hardware and software checks. Here are some steps you can take to try to resolve the problem.
- Power Settings: Check your laptop's power settings. Sometimes, aggressive power-saving settings can cause the screen to turn off quickly. Adjust these settings to ensure that the screen doesn't turn off too soon while the laptop is charging.
- Display Drivers: Make sure your display drivers are up to date. Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause display issues. You can download the latest drivers from HP's official website.
- Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes, updates can address performance and compatibility issues.
- BIOS Update: Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model on HP's support website. BIOS updates can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.
- Hardware Check: Perform a hardware check to rule out any potential problems with the charging port, battery, or other components. You can run built-in hardware diagnostic tests, which are often available in the BIOS settings or through HP's support software.
- Power Plan: Adjust your laptop's power plan settings. You can access these by right-clicking the battery icon in the system tray and selecting "Power Options." Choose a balanced or high-performance power plan that suits your needs.
- Screen Timeout Settings: Double-check the screen timeout settings in both your power plan settings and Windows settings. Ensure that the screen isn't set to turn off too quickly.
- Background Applications: Some background applications might be causing the issue. Try closing unnecessary applications or background processes to see if that resolves the problem.
- Malware and Virus Scan: Perform a thorough malware and virus scan on your laptop. Malicious software can sometimes affect system performance.
- External Devices: If you have any external devices connected to your laptop while it's charging, try disconnecting them to see if the issue persists.
- Factory Reset: If none of the above solutions work, you might consider performing a factory reset as a last resort. This should be done after backing up your important data, as it will restore your laptop to its original settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
