My work has given me a Macbook Pro and I am not able to make it recognize my HP Z38c monitor at home.  Tried to connect them directly using a USB-C as well as via docking station and display port.  I could not find any monitor drivers for the mac on the HP support site.  Its a shame that I am not able to use the monitor that I love so much.  Appreciate any tips to make it work.  Thanks!!

There really aren't vendor specific drivers much any more unless the monitor has a specific function like built in calibration.  I do not know why it would not work over DisplayPort from your dock.  DisplayPort on the monitor should be on by default.  Are you connecting multiple displays to your dock?

As for USB-C there are a few possible reasons.

1. Make sure the USB-C cable you are using supports data.  There are cables (like what ships with the macbook pro) that only support power.

2. Make sure the USB-C cable is rated for 3.0 or higher

3. Verify that Power Mode on the monitor is set to Performance.  If it is set to Power Saver (which is the default) USB-C will be disabled.  This setting on my Z27 is in the On Screen menu in Power Control-->Power Mode
