Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an all in one HP 24-ro14 that won’t turn on. The light around the power plug turns on so there must be an issue with the power button itself. Does anyone know a magic way that I can repair this without having to bust into the back of it and start replacing things? Or tell that it’s definitely the power button and not something else? Thanks!

@Jessiecarl -- The light around the power plug turns on

That lamp may just indicate that the computer is receiving power from the power-supply.

Possibly, it does not indicate that the computer is up-and-running Windows.

so there must be an issue with the power button itself.

Maybe, and maybe not.  The other "usual suspects" are:

  1. a failed processor
  2. a failed motherboard
  3. the power-supply not supplying the correct voltage to the motherboard
  4. a broken power-button

I doubt that #4 is the "most-likely" to be the cause.

Magic? No.

After you power-on the computer, do you hear the internal fan spinning?

Do you feel any air coming-out of the exhaust-ports?

Can you press the button to open the tray of the CD/DVD device? Is the tray getting any electrical power?

Or tell that it’s definitely the power button and not something else?

I would suspect "something else", probably from the above list of "usual suspects".

Good morning!
In answer to your question, after I press the power but I get exactly nothing. I don’t hear any sounds at all from the fan, no blowing air or anything. If I press the cd/dvd tray button nothing happens either. No response at all from any part of the computer. That little light on the back when I plug in the cord is the only indicator I have that there’s any power at all. I hope that helped narrow it down!

It does. If the power-supply is not sending any small amount of power to spin the fan or to power the DVD-tray, there are only a few possibilities:

1. the on/off switch is broken, or the wires from it have become disconnected from the motherboard,

2. for your All-In-One, the external power-supply has failed, and must be replaced.

I hope this helps, but I have just written what I have previously written.  Sorry, no "magic" today.

Awesome thank you! I’ll try both of those and report back if that fixed it 🙂
