690-0034 comes with two video ports built into the motherboard
One VGA and the other HDMI.
Both ports should work. I assume you have VGA monitor for the main display and tried to use your HDMI monitor for as a second one?
Try disconnecting the VGA and only use the HDMI when booting up.
If you have a discrete graphics card plugged into a PCIe slot then it is likely the HP BIOS has disabled the on-board video ports. You will have to use the other ports (if any) that are on your video card.
