HP Pavilion Desktop 590-p0024
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The desktop PC we've had for a little over a year has started to fail with it's video output. I've swapped two monitors out to see if it was a monitor problem, but it still won't function. Initially I thought I'd just have to buy a new graphics card for it, but after looking online to see what might be able to work in it, I realized it's integrated which strikes me as a motherboard problem. So what would be my next best step, because I wouldn't want to purchase a card for nothing.

Your assumption may be correct.  Since the spec page show a HDMI and a VGA output, I would try the other port from which ever one you are now using.  Just to see.

There is a possible USB to monitor adapter that might solve the problem without having to buy a graphics card but a graphics card might be a better choice.

VGA appears to work, so I guess the problem was the HDMI port is not functioning properly. I'll need to test out a different HDMI cable just to rule out that possibility, but otherwise I'm left with a VGA-only tower.

Thanks for reporting back.  If you find that it was a faulty HDMI cable or the port, please post back with that report.
