MY SCREEN GOES BLACK WHILE IT'S ON, I HAD THE SAME ISSUE WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT LAST MONTH SO I WENT TO BACK TO THE STORE TO HAVE IT REPLACED WITH THE SAME BRAND/MODEL. STILL THE SAME ISSUE, BUT WORST AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK UNLIKE THE FIRST ONE I BOUGHT, IT WOULD ONLY BLINK VERY QUICKLY. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE ASSIST? I'M PLANNING ON RETURNING THE UNIT ALREADY AS I'M GETTING FRUSTRATED WITH IT.

@esteelouder, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You mentioned that the screen goes black intermittently, and this issue has persisted across two units of the same model. This could be related to display settings, graphics drivers, or hardware behavior such as power-saving features.

Let's work together to try and resolve this.
Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause black screen or flickering issues.

Download and install the latest graphics drivers using HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

Alternatively, update via Device Manager:

  • Press Windows + X → Select Device Manager
  • Expand Display adapters
  • Right-click your graphics card → Select Update driver

Check Power & Sleep Settings

Sometimes aggressive power-saving settings can turn off the display prematurely.

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen and sleep
  • Set "Turn off my screen after" to a longer duration or Never (for testing)

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

This will help identify any hardware-related issues.

  • Restart your PC and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
  • Run the System Test and Display Test

BIOS Update

An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause display issues.

External Monitor Test (if possible)

If you have access to an external monitor:

  • Connect it to the PC via HDMI
  • Check if the issue replicates on the external display

This helps determine if the issue is with the internal display or the graphics system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I followed all the solutions on this post except the external monitor test as I don't have one. I still got black screen intermittently throughout the day today. Is there anything else we can do to solve this issue? Thanks

@esteelouder, Thank you for your response.
I truly appreciate you trying all the steps we provided. I understand how frustrating this ongoing issue must be, especially since it has happened with two different units of the same model.

Since the problem persists even after updating the graphics drivers, BIOS, adjusting the power settings, and running diagnostics and considering that this is your second unit with a similar issue,  it may point to a hardware issue.

We suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - Canada | HP® Support

I hope this helps!
